If you won the lottery today, would you change? I bet your first response is, “No!”, well, think again. Even if you don’t intend to, there are jealous people in your circle right now who will force you to change, and believe me, some of them are your so-called friends.Forget about the lottery for a moment. Did you know that people can be jealous of you just because you dress nicely, because you are ambitious, because you got a promotion, because you do your job well, or even because your beaming smile makes you popular? ..
So, be aware there are some jealous people in your circle. Some are obvious, and others fake it well. Another thing you might want to consider is that there are people who will cheer you up as long you are at their level. The moment you start climbing the ladder of success, whether it be financially or professionally, they start resenting you.
Jealous people are sick. They are player haters. And many of them are fakers (oops! another F word!). In your face, they kiss you all over. But once you walk away, the back stabbing starts. That causes you to start watching what you say. As a result, you are not your natural self anymore. Yep, hypocrites and jealous people can have a devastating effect on you.
Some strategies to help deal with them effectively:
1) Keep Your Distance. The best way to deal with these people is with a “long stick.” When you see them, you should hold one end of the stick and have them hold the other. This expression would be very similar to the American term: “wouldn’t want to touch them with a ten-foot pole!”
2) Never Bad Mouth Them. You are above pettiness. Petty gossip is for the lazy and the losers. Whenever their names come up in conversation, either say something nice or say nothing at all.
3) Don’t Take It Personal. I know it may hurt when others behave jealously toward you. But don’t let a loser disturb your peace of mind. No matter how you look at it, a jerk is a jerk. You are not responsible for their behavior. However, you are responsible for the way you respond.
4) Prove Them Wrong. Yes, if you have the opportunity to do them a favor or open some doors for them, do it anyway. It will show that you are the bigger person; and you have no time to bang heads with little people. And it will put them to shame.
Okay, the above advice is not just about your friends. Family members can sometimes be worse. They know a lot about you and can easily pick you apart. You can get rid of your friends, but not family. You will always meet them at weddings, the hospital, or at funerals. Just ignore the gossip and be a diplomat. And stay true to yourself in spite of the critics.
I wish you incredible success,
